Creating Audio Books
Theresa has asked for the simplest, least costly way to create downloadable audio books.
Answer: Create them yourself. Record your own voice reading the material. Use as high a quality microphone as possible, find yourself a quiet place and record directly onto your computer. Spend some time practising beforehand to ensure you sound natural and relaxed.
Use a free program like Audacity to record and edit your voice and then cut the audio into manageable sized files and put them on a download page.
If you are uncomfortable with recording your own voice then pay a voiceover to record it for you. The price can vary dramatically for this sort of work depending where you look and the quality of the voice and audio recording. Websites like Elance and Guru.com allow you to list your project for voice artists to bid on. Make sure you listen to their portfolios/showreels carefully because the voice and audio quality can vary greatly and not all of it is good.

P.S. I’ll be going into these subjects in greater detail in the future, so if you have specific questions regarding finding voiceovers for your projects or self-recording, please post them here.
